The Numbers Tell The Story

(As told by OSHA 2023 statistics*)

Industrial companies are facing mounting pressure to enhance workplace safety and comply with OSHA’s stringent regulations. As safety standards continuously evolve and enforcement intensifies, high-level managers are grappling with the complexities of implementing robust safety programs.

Failure to meet OSHA requirements can result in hefty fines, operational disruptions, and reputational damage. That’s where we come in. By partnering with knowledgeable safety consultants, top-level managers can navigate the intricate web of compliance obligations, foster a culture of safety, and safeguard their workforce while maintaining operational excellence. Leveraging specialized guidance is crucial for organizations striving to stay ahead of the curve and ensure a safe, productive, and OSHA-compliant work environment.

Fall Protection Violations

The high number of fall protection violations indicates that many employers are failing to properly identify fall hazards, implement the required fall protection systems, and train workers on their use. Addressing these common violations is critical to preventing serious injuries and fatalities from falls in the construction industry.

HazCom Violations

These violations can result in significant OSHA penalties up to $15,625 per violation. Indirect costs can also be high, including worker injuries, lost productivity, and reputational damage. To avoid HazCom violations, employers must have a robust hazard communication system with proper labeling, SDSs, training, and a written program regularly reviewed and updated.

Ladder Violations

Falls from ladders account for many fatal and serious workplace injuries. OSHA ladder safety standards ensure proper ladder selection, inspection, setup, and use to prevent these incidents. Violations can result in substantial OSHA penalties, with over $7.2 million in ladder-related fines in 2021. Employers must train workers on safe ladder use and enforce compliance to avoid citations and protect safety.

Skilled Workers Are in High Demand...But Low Supply

Across industries such as power generation, construction, and manufacturing, there is a significant shortage of skilled and credentialed workers. Individuals possessing the required knowledge, experience, and qualifications are highly sought after, often gravitating towards opportunities with the most competitive compensation packages. This presents a formidable challenge for many businesses, particularly smaller organizations, as they strive to attract and retain top talent against larger, well-resourced corporations.

Compounding this issue is the steady outflow of experienced professionals transitioning into alternative careers or entering retirement. This exodus of skilled labor has exacerbated an already critical staffing situation, leaving numerous organizations grappling with a lack of qualified personnel.

The welding industry alone is facing inumerable challenges…

360,000 Welding Professionals

According to the American Welding Society (AWS) there will be an estimated shortage of 360,000 welding professionals, including Certified Welding Inspectors, by the end of 2024. It’s expected that there will be a need for  90,000 new welding jobs to be filled every year until 2027 in order to catch up with the demand.

155,000 Retiring Welders

As of 2023, there were approximately 770,000 welders in the United States, but over 155,000 of them are approaching retirement age, further exacerbating the shortage of skilled welding professionals, including CWIs.

42,600 Welder Job Openings

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 42,600 job openings for welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers (which includes CWIs) each year from 2022 to 2032, primarily driven by the need to replace retirees and career changers.
